DRAWING
“Limits” began in 2015 when I needed a way to visually quantify my work in relation to other forms of labour undertaken by my family and partner. Consisting of the repetitive nature of drawing 1mm (approximately) diameter circles, this series displays concerns around the relationship between time, labour and productivity. Since 2015 this project has taken on specific sets of limitations, in particular the time taken on the drawing and the size of paper.
“Limits” has continued to evolve into a conceptual work where the drawings may be selected, packaged and sent to a person in exchange for equal amounts of their labour. In other sub-series I have selected paper sizes and requested a number from specific people to visually quantify my work in relation to theirs. This way of controlling the drawing enabled me to experiment with how “Limits” was affected in differing laborious contexts and to see an “idea without any confusion” on a larger scale. “Limits” is still on going and evolving to demonstrate the ever changing and ephemeral quality of time within a society where the worth of an object is depleting.
